My place in the world
“In 1975 I had the opportunity to get to know the Calchaquies valleys in the province of Salta and at that very moment I realized that it was my place in the world and one day I would lay my foundations there. I was struck by its incredible reddish rock formations, rivers and dunes, indescribable landscapes and unimaginable natural beauty. With a very pleasant climate - dry mountain subtropical - an altitude of more than 1600 meters. above sea level and a great temperature range, I also learned that it was a privileged area for the production of wines, since the grapes ripen in a balanced way and concentrate the aromas that so characterize the vines of those latitudes. Within these valleys was also the town of Cafayate, with its colonial style architecture and cultural and historical attractions that completed everything one could dream of to live surrounded by nature. This experience stuck with me, and although I was a teenager at the time I knew that one day that wish would be fulfilled ”- Marcelo Pena, founding partner of Finca Familia Pena.
Our Passion
“Beyond his profession, Marcelo always had a passion for wines. He started it as a hobby tasting and growing his collection, but little by little he was introduced to this fascinating world. He began to train, investigate, observe and analyze the entire winemaking process. He invested his time traveling to observe the different production methods and interacted with winemakers and experts in the field who were always open to sharing their experiences and knowledge. His interest and curiosity spread more and more trying to learn the secrets of varietals and winemaking activity from end to end. For his vocation and love for wines to reach its peak, he only needed to put it into practice one day from its “genesis”: choose the best soil, select the best seedlings and apply all his knowledge acquired in this exciting world "- Adela Di Blasi, Marcelo's wife, inseparable partner and key link in this endeavor.
Our goal
"Marcelo and I follow our own professional path and with great effort and dedication we managed to be successful and recognized in our specialties. Despite the stones and constant challenges that life puts on you, we feel privileged since we have the most precious asset that can be had: a beautiful, tremendously united family and one of the great legacies that our parents instilled in us and left to develop in life: Honesty, respect and permanent effort. Although we always had the aspiration to do something together, unfortunately the professions that we follow did not have a meeting point. Our paths had grown too far apart. Finca Familia Pena was born from finding a place in the world to live, developing a passion for wines in the best possible place and fulfilling the dream of having a family business that prioritizes the values instilled by our parents. Accompanied and supported by the whole family and in particular by our unconditional companions in our lives and in all the challenges we have faced: Adela and Silvia, the fundamental links of our happiness and our success. Our commitment is that this undertaking is the pride of our family, the legacy that we will leave to our children and future generations, and an example to be followed by all those who proclaim the same values as us.
